  What classes should I take to enhance my piano experience?  
 

Theory Theory: music grammar (Freshman, Sophomore and Junior I, II and III) - match that with your piano levels. Preferably at least advance one grade per school year. Students could skip to Theory III if they have reached Gd 3 and 4 ABRSM practical grades. Students could integrate individual theory lessons with class lessons in the process of advancing the grades.

Theory Theory: music grammar (Senior Grade IV and V) - Advance Theory concepts. Detail homework required. Prerequisite for International senior grades 6, 7 and 8 in any instruments.

aural Auralia Class - ABRSM Aural Training. Offer 8 to 10 weeks before each session of test. All levels.

gym Kodaly Gym - First step in piano. Comprehensive introduction to piano with Kodaly method, ear training and note reading.

music tech Sibelius (dynamic music notational and composing tool) - good for students who are 12 years or above or have reached Theory Gd 4 level., (requirement if students want to enroll in ABRSM Grade 6 Theory - used for submitting music homework esp. music in Baroque, Classical period and choral writings). Also suitable for students who has taken Music Tech GarageBand I.

music tech GarageBand I & II- Introduction to this powerful music composition and production software - good for students who have started piano 2 -3 years starting at age 8 or 9., classes will be grouped to different age ranges. (Age 8-10., 11 - 13 and 14 and above.) It's a useful tool for further school projects and all kinds of presentations which involves music composition and production.

Ensemble, jingles, ringtones, simple game music. Further the knowledge of GarageBand I to more extensive projects integrating Sibelius with GarageBand. Suggested for students who are in Theory Grade 4 or 5 and have taken GarageBand I.

music tech LogicPro - Music Tech III - professional layerings, sound design, bigger scale projects with multi media usages). For students who have taken GarageBand II and have passed Theory Grade 5. This is a highly professional music production software which requires creative and self motivated projects.

Auralia Junior and Advance Auralia Advance Aural training class - for ABRSM advance grade Aural part III exam preparation. Step by step aural training materials is provided.

The class is progressed in topics (focusing on each topic for 2 - 3 weeks in rotation, from introductory to advance):

1 Mapping the notes in multiple layers in singing
2 Realizing difference cadences and their sound and feel.
3 Sight singing and its technique.
4 Modulations

kodaly First Step in piano - comprehensive introduction to piano with KODALY method - Explore note values, rhythmic patterns, keyboard geography and music reading - keyboard gym format with percussion ensemble games. Complete foundation and one of the best kind of keyboard preparation class before formal piano lessons and easing into International ABRSM syllabus exam developed by the studio. For kids just starting piano or are preparing to start piano (4-5/ 5-6 years of age).

  music tech Composing thru Music Technology : Garage Band, Sibelius and LogicPro bring out the creative composer that dwells within each student - musical forms and composition basics: Apple platforms and iPad apps

Garage Band - In depth learning of how great songs are made. Learning song formats and styles while exploring this excellent Pattern-based softwares in a step by step format and enjoy the fun in writing your own music. Students will have the chance to upload their music to the internet and share their final projects. Great for students of music, up to senior levels, preparing for multi media projects at school / in the real world by using their composing music knowledge. Fees include addition computer lab time, free iPads, midi keyboards and synthesizers use. 5 students max per class.

Sibelius - for writing, playing, printing and publishing music notation. We are using the same versions as Universities and Colleges use. Class will be formed for training in this award winning music notational software. This 5 basic training sessions will get you fully prepared with basic elements to start with whatever projects in the future.

Topics includes:

  • Setting up the score (instruments, style, time signature, tempo, key signature)
  • Using Keypad to input notes and rests
  • Adding accidental, staccato, slur, accent etc
  • Transposing the bars up and down
  • Change durations of notes for publishing
  • Input midi to Sibelius
  • Add lyrics to existing project
  • To learn how to make the score look “pretty”, completely fix a 'messy' score.
  • To add dynamics for your project

Students will get the chance to construct a simple score, input midi and make a short score including transposition to correct a messy score of midi input into a published ready score.
